There Is Magic In Words And The Divine In Stories
Mission
From a Social Media Post Made on August 5th, 2021
This time last year I was laid off from job at Tesla during the pandemic. Before that moment I worked a lot of jobs, I was a quarky, rebellious cop in a corrupt Savannah, an adventure hungry Deck Officer for Disney Cruise Lines who was accused of nearly starting a mutiny, I tried my hand and spectacularly failed at two businesses and then got lost somewhere in between. But I had a dream of becoming a writer, which I didn't think was feasible or if it could financially sustain me. I was rejected well over 200 times by publishers and agents, which gave me a heavy doubt. But I want to be a story-teller, a writer of something breath taking. This dream, this audacious feat has now possessed my head and my heart.
I'll turn 34 on the 23rd and it was a roller-coaster of a year. The pandemic, getting laid-off, contracting Covid, worrying about money, and an agonizing break-up. It was a screwked-up year, and it was one of the best years of my life. The life-changing lessons learned, the friends and family who supported me, the fans I made, the travel, and learning about what love really is; all of this because I followed my dream. All of this because of the stories I'm telling. What a beautiful year.
Within this strange year, I sold over 1,500 copies of my novels and made $29,000 in revenue, just from art markets and the bar promotions. I was in the news a few times, I was able to finish my 3rd novel, built relationships with bar owners and art market/ festival managers in not only Jacksonville but in Panama City, Winter Haven, South Carolina, Georgia, and now Austin, Texas. I am now slowly getting my books in stores, most notably Ripley's Believe it or Not in St. Augustine.
I greet my 34th year and its challenges with a tested resilience, great enthusiasms, and a noble heart as I expand my audience, my art, my meaning. I am going to travel more to expand my reach, invest and experiment with digital marketing, and finish my 4th novel, a murder-mystery where time is the scene of the crime. Each book, each new reader is a triumphic victory as I get closer to my endgame. What's my endgame? Wait and see.
